Oh, don’t I love it when parallel stories converge. On this occasion, El Ministerio del Tiempo gave us three stories that ended up having something in common: Las Sinsombrero (the women from the Generation of ’27), the stolen children in the 1980s, and the vampire of the Raval.
Let’s separate the stories, so that we don’t get lost: for starters, we have Irene meeting a teacher in a museum. Said teacher is explaining to her pupils the story of Las Sinsombrero, the forgotten women of the Generation of ’27, and then she sees one of the women looks exactly like her, causing her to faint because of the surprise. Irene, of course, realises that something is going on, and tries to get Salvador to do something about it.
Buuut, Salvador has bigger problems. You see, Enriqueta, Amelia’s former servant, followed Amelia through the doors, discovered the Ministry and decided to visit her future to see what would happen to her. And what happened to her? She became the Vampire of the Raval, a child murderer, procuress and even worse things. Young Enriqueta has made the mistake of saving Old Enriqueta from getting caught by the police, so Old Enriqueta has ended up in the Ministry with the little girl she had kidnapped. Then Old E gets the child and escapes through a door, but no one knows which one. Chaos! She must be found! She could be anywhere in time!
In the meantime, while our team travels to 1912 to see if Old E left any clues in her flat, Irene goes to 1932 to meet the woman from Las Sinsombrero who looks just like the teacher. She doesn’t remember any other life, but funnily, has the same dizziness as the teacher. More mystery…
So Irene decides to resort to hypnosis. What does the teacher see during this trance? She sees that, yes, of course, she was the little girl that Old E brought with her through the doors, and eventually even remembers the door Old E took them through.
The team discovers that Old E sold the teacher (as a little girl) to this doctor, and the team catches her as she is trying to sell another one. Oops. Old E has no way out of this, and is sent back to 2016.
There, Young E asks for a deal: she can persuade Old E, but she wants to be able to give Old E a pill so that she can kill herself when in jail. After all, she has read that she died after her prison mates beat her up –or she died poisoned, the story is blurry. It is a kind act from the woman who has yet to become a monster.
Oh! And there’s another twist Irene discovers during the hypnosis! While the teacher was taken to 1986 and sold to a couple, she is also in 1932 because…chan chaaan… there were two of them! That’s it, they were twins, and while Old E ran away with the teacher, she left the other little girl in the flat, where the police found her and returned her to her parents. So Irene takes the teacher to 1932 so that she can see her sister –alas, without talking to her, as the shock for the Sinsombrero would be too much.
-It’s all about parents and their children. Ernesto also got to finally meet his son, but he seemed too nonchalant. Jerk.
-And Enriqueta went mad after she lost her child due to malnutrition.
-Not much of Alonso and Julián this week. I didn’t like this one bit!
-Amelia keeps avoiding Julián. Does she feel guilty for sleeping with Pacino? Please show, do NOT make them an item, and let Amelia eventually marry Pacino or something.
-Turns out that Salvador was also one of those stolen children (a bit earlier in time, thought). His flashback was adorable.
-Do I have the feeling that, when the team was told they’d go to 1986’s Madrid, Amelia thought they might run into Pacino?
-The Thee/You running gag keeps going and I love it.
-“She decided to avoid it by warning herself in 1912 that the cops were coming.” “Like when Marty McFly warns Doc in Back to the Future.” “What?” “We’ll watch it.”
-The Ministry’s files! So much to learn.
-People, the audience numbers for MdT are very low right now, and RTVE is a public TV station, so it will cancel it if the numbers don’t get better, but unfortunately, most of its audience watches it online because they are from other countries. Write to RTVE and let them know how much you like the show! They need to realise that MdT has a vast audience outside of Spain as well!
