So I Watched GoT’s Finale, ‘The Iron Throne’…

Guys, this is the last time we will ever watch a Game of Thrones episode and the last time I will ever write about it -until all those prequels come flooding HBO, that is…

Did you love it? I loved it. I went into the episode with one wish only: please keep Arya alive. And they succeeded. Also, I have been saying for weeks (if not years, since Ygritte died), that all Jon really wanted was to live north of the Wall with Tormund and co.

Let’s do this…

-Jaime and Cersei in the credits! Corpse paycheck!

-This is the last time I will watch this intro. I’m not crying. Shut up.

-The lion stained glass over the throne is gone in the intro!

-Tyrion looks DONE.

-So much silence.

-I wonder what he’s thinking. Which is probably “I let my bestie die and turns out he was totally right.”

-There’s like, three people still alive in King’s Landing. And one is a burnt Tarzan.

-Little girl with wooden toy!

-Finally someone says something.

-Jon, just let Tyrion go and see if his escape plan for his siblings worked (Read with Ron Howard’s Arrested Development voiceover voice: “It didn’t”)

-Someone should pay for Grey Worm’s therapy. Killing people will not bring Missandei back.

-Because he is now just being a dick.

-Yes, Davos, please get Jon out of there.

-So now we have ashes AND snow.

-Poor Tyrion. He really wants to find the boat is gone.

-The hand!

-Damn it. I knew Cersei and Jaime had obviously died, but seeing their bodies, thus confirming it, makes it harder.

-This is tough. Tyrion is definitely regretting the last three years of counselling Dany.

-By the way, I love that their heads remain intact.

-Give Peter all the awards.

-Okay, I’m crying now.

-Rains of Castemere playing to make it even worse.

-I know Arya is sad and angry right now, but I hope she won’t kill Dany, because that will make her die for sure.

-I mean, it has to be Jon.

-How did they make that massive Targaryen flag so quickly?

-This whole scene is so Third Reich-erian. This is why populism is the worst, both right and left-winged.

-Jon knows he has to do something, but I also guess he doesn’t want to die?

-Wow, that image of Dany with the dragon’s wings on her back was gorgeous.

-So much black leather.

-Heck, she doesn’t even need a megaphone. And I need to use my phone to call someone in a room six feet away from me.

-But someone should really stop her. She is going full Napoleon.

-Hmm, so now freeing someone means killing them.

-Tyrion, being a boss. I mean, he freed his brother, but he died anyway, so who cares.

-Nice pin-throwing.

-Go fetch it.

-The Unsullied stopping their thumping was scary as hell.

-Jon, now would be a good time to, you know, do something.

-Like, Tyrion just gave you a very knowing look.

-Is Jon wearing heels? So trendy.

-Damn! Arya sure is the Stealth Queen.

-Arya is right. Dany will probably kill Jon the moment she feels threatened.

-How are they allowing Jon into Tyrion’s chamber? That’s definitely the place to plot against Dany.

-At least it’s not a dungeon cell.

-“Now Varys’ ashes can tell my ashes, see? I told you.” Hilarious and sad.

-Please show, don’t kill Tyrion.

-Jon, just…  listen to Tyrion! She’s definitely going to kill your sisters!

-Too late to say Varys was right.

-No, Jon, you are winterrrrr.

-Jon, stop trying to justify this, it’s stupid to do so.

-Jon, you know you wouldn’t have burned King’s Landing.

-You can say it, Jon, that cell is not bugged.

-Aaaaand recap of Dany’s murder spree.

-“Love is the death of duty.” Why is Tyrion so surprised? Who’s said that to him in the show? I need answers.

-Jon, just fricking listen to Tyrion and KILL HERRRRRRR.

-We obviously needed at least one scene of Jon walking and brooding.

-Hell!! Drogon appeared out of nowhere.

-That reminded me of that Harry Potter scene from the first film.

-I know Dany has been obsessed with that throne her entire life, but you know what they say, the end doesn’t justify the means -or something like that.

-It’s not even that comfortable.

-And that room must be awful when it rains, now that it has no roof.

-Or walls.

-Sure Jon, be mad now.

-Hmm, as hateful as Cersei was, I don’t think she expected you to kill everyone.

-Oh, Jon, like Dany is going to listen to your pleas.

-“They don’t get to choose” is Dany’s “kill them all.”

-Wait, so now he is okay with kissing her?

-AHHH!!!!

-Okay, so he did it to kill her. Smart move.

-She didn’t see that coming.

-I still don’t regret dressing up as Dany back in 2012 for a costume party. She’s cool. And also a terrible ruler who thinks murdering everyone who is against you is the solution to every problem (again, populism sucks and we should all be terrified by its rise in our world. I hope this finale makes people change their minds).

-Beautiful image of him holding her with the throne in the background.

-Poor Jon. Being Ned’s son makes you too honourable for your own good.

-Drogon! Is he going to burn Jon? But if he does, since he is a Targaryen, will he just come out of that fire naked with his manbun intact?

-Poor Drogon, pushing his mum because she won’t wake up.

-Drogon scares meeeeeeeeee.

-Jon is like, “I’m so ready to die.”

-To be fair, Jon always looks like he wants to die.

-Ouch. Bye, throne!

-Intense.

-Drogon knows that throne is what’s killed his mum. Dragons are so smart.

-For some reason, though, I thought that throne couldn’t be melted. I’m stupid.

-Errr, where are you taking the corpse, sir?

-Jon, now you just need to tell everyone Dany reconsidered and decided to move to Essos and hang out with Daario instead.

-Tyrion looks like he’s been locked up for a while! I assumed Jon would free him.

-Wait, Grey Worm? Where are they taking Tyrion?

-Spain! I mean, the dragon pit!

-The Starks! Gendry! Sam! Lots of people I thought we’d never see again!

-Oh, so Jon is a prisoner. Of course Jon turned himself in. That’s so Jon.

-Oh, Yara. You should have seen that Daenerys was going to be a tyrant, no matter how pretty she was. I mean, have you taken a look at the capital, since you are there?

-Little Arya defending her brother. Gotta love her.

-Davos, another character so wise people should always listen to him.

-Grey Worm, seriously, stop it.

-Tyrion, another wise man. Grey Worm has no say in this.

-What the hell, is that the Arryn kid?????

-I’m assuming they are not going to choose Jon, since half of them want to kill him.

-Tobias Menzies! I had forgotten he was in this show.

-Hahahah, “Uncle, please sit.” Priceless.

-This is the guy who couldn’t throw an arrow properly.

-Oh, Sam. Nope. We are not choosing a president. We are choosing a king.

-Not surprised everyone laughed at him.

-“I’ll ask my horse.”

-I really want Peter Dinklage to win an Emmy for this.

-Bran????

-I really want to know what they talked about back in episode 2. I’m sure that’s what’s led to this.

-Does he need to be called “The Broken”, though?

-Also, he didn’t fall, Ty’s brother pushed him. But let’s omit that.

-Good thing about Bran, he won’t make the same mistakes as previous kings, because he can see those mistakes!

-So, ruling, Roman Empire style.

-Sam looks happy.

-“Why do you think I came all this way?” LONG LIVE BRAN THE BROKEN.

-Also, he even smiled!!!

-Davos, your opinion matters.

-Queen in the North!

-Well, then the whole continent is ruled by the Starks.

-After all the shit they’ve been through.

-Awww, Arya looks so proud of them.

-Of couuuuuurse Tyrion is meant to be the Hand.

-Again, where is Peter’s Emmy?

-I’m so happy, because these past couple of seasons I had feared he’d been sidelined, but now he’s getting what he deserves.

-Yes, Grey Worm, he can, shut up.

-I wouldn’t say they were “terrible” mistakes.

-Seriously Grey Worm, shut up.

-Someone please give Jon some shampoo.

-Hmm, same question here: there’s still a Night’s Watch?

-But also, Jon is coming full circle and going back there?

-I don’t think he’s particularly sad about it. That’s where he always wanted to be, anyway.

-Jon’s beard is weird.

-Yes, Jon, it was right to kill her.

-Of course it doesn’t feel right, Jon. You’re the Queenslayer now.

-Though I am sure in ten years everyone will think it was a good call.

-Nooo, don’t say things like “we’ll never see each other again.”

-Love these little callbacks, like Tyrion taking a piss from the top of the Wall.

-So sad.

-Not crying.

-Shush!

-Oh, I see Jon is not only going back to the Wall, he is sporting his signature look from the first seasons.

-That makes me even sadder.

-It’s ending!

-For a second there, I thought Grey Worm was going to kill Jon.

-Awww, they are going to Naath, Missandei’s island. So sad.

-At least it’s sunny and they have beaches.

-Oh no, Starks saying goodbye. I can’t even.

-At least they are alive. That’s all I care about at this point.

-Oh no, don’t say goodbye to Arya. So sad.

-Yess. I love that Arya is doing this.

-She is the new Columbus.

-Although, I guess she can come back and visit Castle Black, so don’t be so somber about not going back to the North.

-This is so sad. They just reunited!!

-Oohh, Bran got a new outfit, now that he is king.

You were exactly where you were supposed to be. So Bran. But also, so true.

-All the tears.

-Is Brienne the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard now, like Jaime was?

-I bet she is.

-Awww, she is completing Jaime’s story with all the good things he did.

-Nice calligrahy, Brienne!

-“Died protecting his Queen.” I’m sobbing.

-Let the ink dry, Brienne!

-Wait, Bronn hasn’t showed up yet. Please tell me he’s not going to appear now and murder Tyrion, because this scene looks too calm now.

-No, he’s part of the Council now, thank God.

-So, he has Highgarden, I assume?

-Poor Tyrion, all that time rearranging the chairs.

-Of course, Sam is George RR Martin.

-Ouch, Tyrion is not in the book? Proof that we shouldn’t trust history books if we weren’t there. Thank goodness for Bran, right?

-By the way, is Bran going to live a thousand years? How does that work?

-Bran couldn’t care less, hahaha.

-Yesss, Bran is warging to find the dragon.

-I swear when he said “carry on”, I thought he was going to do that thing with his eyes right there and space out.

-Aww, Podrick is also in the Kingsguard.

-Bran is having a field day.

-Bronn Master of Coin? Allow me to laugh.

-“Lord of Lofty Titles” must be one of the best lines from this episode.

-I am loving this little scene about ruling the country.

-Aww, Davos is a grammar expert now. #justiceforshireen

-Aaand they are about to discover the benefits of clean water.

-Of course Bronn only cares about brothels.

-Ouch, we are never going to hear the end of Tyrion’s story?

-If that’s the last we ever see of Tyrion, I’m happy that was his last scene.

-Yay! Tormund is there! I knew Tormund would be there.

-Jon now has 100% his early seasons hairstyle.

-Also, his face when he sees Tormund.

-I must say I am lo-ving this montage of the three Stark siblings. Love it.

-So beautiful.

-So glad they thrived after all the shit they went through.

-Like, they are happy. The Stark children are happy. I can’t believe I just typed that.

-I’m not crying, you’re crying.

-Aww, all the Wildlings love Jon.

-And I love Sansa’s dress.

-And the Stark melody playing. Goosebumps.

-Ghost!

-Jon is petting Ghost! FINALLY!!

-Those ships are massive and I love all the Stark stuff on them.

-That shot of Arya reminded me of the end of season 4, when she sails to Essos.

-I’m so happy for them, as if they were my own children.

-So emotional.

-Sansa’s throne is everything.

-Whoever is West of Westeros, they are definitely going to see those Stark sails.

-Jon looks like he is accompanying the Wildlings, but the way he looked at the door, he is not going back there.

-Also, callback to the very beginning of the show, which started with that door opening.

-A plant! A dream of spring!

-Jon and Tormund, buddies for life (don’t tell Sam).

-This is like The Return of the King. I expect every shot to be the last. And then it’s not.

-Don’t play with my emotions, D&D.

-Jon is like, let’s do this, screw everything south of the Wall.

-And he seems so happy about it.

-I’m sad and happy at the same time.

-Perfect final shot.

-Again, I’m so sad.

-I have no more GoT eppisodes to watch ever again!!

-What are we going to do now?

-Anyway, thanks for reading along. These past eight years have been a ride. You know there will never be anything like this again, at least not for quite a few years. And it’s been the best of times. Winter came and went, the Starks prevailed and Ghost is alive. Nothing else matters. Can’t wait to see that documentary next week. Valar Morghulis!

  1. Sansa earned my love when she asked Uncle Eddie to take his seat. The last person I wanted to see as the new ruler of the Seven Kingdoms was Black Jack Randall.

  2. An amusing little take on the finale revealing the futures of favorite characters: https://twitter.com/i/status/1130581319593783296
